The Future Burden of Cancer in Construction Workshop was held on November 21, 2019. The goal of the workshop was to share results from a study on the future burden of cancer in the Ontario construction industry due to priority carcinogens, and discuss priorities for prevention.
This report summarizes the results of the future burden study, including the estimated number of cancers that will occur due to asbestos, diesel engine exhaust, silica and solar UV radiation exposure in the Ontario construction industry from 2030 to 2060, and the impact of prevention strategies. It also summarizes the discussion themes that arose during the meeting, including challenges and opportunities to reduce the future burden of cancer.
