The Ontario government has announced increases to cancer coverage for firefighters in the province. It is adding three cancers – cervical, ovarian and penile cancers – to the list of cancers presumed to be related to work as a firefighter. This means that if a firefighter is diagnosed with one of these cancers, their claim for benefits will be expedited by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and they will not need to provide proof of a causal link between their cancer and a workplace exposure.
