The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has released Volume 132 of the IARC Monographs, which assesses the carcinogenicity of occupational exposure as a firefighter.
The Working Group evaluated the scientific evidence and found that occupational exposure as a firefighter is carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), and causes mesothelioma and bladder cancer in humans. The Working Group also found limited evidence that occupational exposure as a firefighter may cause melanoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and colon, prostate, and testicular cancers.
