Public Services and Procurement Canada, a department of the federal government, has banned the use of asbestos-containing materials in construction and renovation of federal buildings under its jurisdiction. Public Services and Procurement Canada is responsible for 30 percent of federal buildings, as well as some new construction. The ban went into effect on April 1st, 2016.
