IARC Monograph Volume 115: Some Industrial Chemicals

In February 2016, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) gathered together international experts to evaluate the carcinogenicity of seven industrial chemicals.

N,N-dimethylformamide (a solvent), 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (found in rubber products), hydrazine (used in rocket propellant and aircraft fuel), and tetrabromobisphenol A (a flame retardant) were classified as probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A).

1-bromopropane (a solvent used in chemical manufacturing, spray adhesives, vapour degreasing, and dry cleaning), 3-chloro-2-methylpropene (used in chemical industry and as a seed fumigant), and N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine (used in dental materials, bone cement and nail polish) were classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B).
