2023-2024 Annual Report Released!

15 Aug 2024

We are pleased to share our annual report, highlighting progress and accomplishments from 2023-2024.

The theme of this report is “expanding our scope.”

It reflects our move from a primary focus on occupational cancer to a broader mandate to conduct research on occupational disease. This expansion in focus has occurred over time in response to the needs of our stakeholder community and to leverage our analytical platforms. It was officially incorporated into our strategic plan for 2023-2028.

This theme also reflects the expanded capacity of our research programs – Surveillance, Exposure, and Epidemiology – as well as our knowledge translation efforts. The report highlights our key progress, including:

  • Surveillance: highlights from the Occupational Disease Surveillance System (ODSS), including opioid-related harms, COVID-19, and female reproductive cancer risks among Ontario workers
  • Exposure: the development of the Exposure Data System, validation of respirator fit testing protocols, and assessment of exposure among miners using the Ontario Mining Exposure Database
  • Epidemiology: health outcomes among workers in mining and nickel refining, and implications of potential policy changes to Ontario’s Asbestos Workers Registry
  • Knowledge translation: findings from workshops on exposure surveillance, cancer and firefighting, and opioids and work
